Czech delegation visited Qatar to develop bilateral relations to higher levels
Our CCPF-Czech-Qatar Chamber of Commerce was a part of the Czech official state delegation headed by Mr. Tomáš Petříček, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, who visited Doha for a two-day delegation between 29-30 October. Mr. Petříček stated publicly that his country seeks to strengthen co-operation with Qatar in all economic fields and attract more foreign investments. Visiting delegation included representatives of over 20 Czech companies specialized in tourism, lighting technologies, communications, financial services, real estate, energy and other fields. Business part of the delegation was headed by the Vice-president of Chamber of Commerce of the Czech Republic (HK ČR).
Program of the business delegation included a visit to Qatar Science and Technology Park, Qatar Foundation and other Qatari institutions. The program was crowned by a guided tour of the Al-Wakra Stadium, which will host group matches of the FIFA 2022 World Cup. The visit to Qatar was concluded by the Czech-Qatari Business Forum which took place in headquarters of the Qatar Chamber (QC).
Speaking at the Forum, the Czech Foreign Minister noted that the Czech market could be linking Qatar to other markets within the European Union. The Qatar Chamber Chairman HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani said that Qatar and the Czech Republic enjoy strong relations in all fields, noting that their trade volume registered a 28% growth in the last five years, estimated at $177 million last year. HE Sheikh Khalifa also stated that Czech Republic is an attractive investment destination for the Qatari private sector, affirming that Qatari investors are eager to learn about the investment opportunities available in Czech Republic to build economic alliances with their Czech counterparts and establish joint projects in both countries.
The QC chairman stressed that measures adopted by the Qatari government, which included legislative reforms such as Free Zones Law and Non-Qatari Capital Investment Law, contributed to increasing the competitiveness of national economy that successes to overcome the unjust siege imposed on the country for over two years. He called on Czech companies and businessmen to boost their co-operation and set up alliances and partnerships across all economic sectors with their Qatari counterparts. The Forum was followed by fruitful B2B meetings between the Czech businessmen and their Qatari counterparts.
